Experience

Andrew Elsbury is a former member of the Victorian State Parliament who represented the Western Metropolitan Region in the Upper House from 2010 to 2014. The Western Metropolitan region during that time spanned from Williamstown in the South, to Craigieburn in the north, from Footscray in the East to just shy of Wyndham Vale in the West before gaining Wyndham Vale and Sunbury while losing Craigieburn in a redivision of the electorate in 2014.

Andrew learned a great deal in this time, such as working in Parliamentary Committees, raising issues of importance to ministers and interacting with the vastly diverse community of the Western Suburbs.

Scoring wins for the community drove Andrew even more, with such successes as:

·        Completing the redevelopment of Wyndham Park Primary School, formerly Glen Ordan.

·        Gaining funds for the rebuild of the indoor swimming pool now Aquapulse.

·        Fighting for a complete refurbishment of Galvin Park Secondary College now Wyndham Central College.

·        Getting Protective Service Officers at Werribee and Hoppers Crossing railway stations[A1] .

·        Securing funding for the Sneydes Road Overpass.

·        Strongly advocating for the retainment of the Regional Rail project, which provided Tarneit and Manor Lakes stations.

·        Having the Department of Education allow Werribee Secondary College to offer the International Baccalaureateas a stream of education.

·        Championing the Werribee East Employment Precinct, a cause Andrew still fights for today.

Not everything went to plan, but Andrew always had the community at heart. He fought to have a trades school built at the former Glen Devon Primary School site, but when the deal fell through he sought to have a special needs school collocated with the Western English Language School on the site. Also, whilst not completed during his parliamentary term, Andrew advocated strongly for facility upgrades at Werribee Secondary College.

Andrew Elsbury was a member of the following Parliamentary and Party Committees:

·        Joint Parliamentary Road Safety Committee

·        Legislative Council Environment and Planning Committee

·        Legislative Council Legal and Social Issues Committee (3 months)

·        Back Bench Committee for Industry, Energy and Natural Resources

·        Back Bench Committee for Local Government

·        Back Bench Committee for Small Business and Consumer Affairs

·        Parliamentary Liberal Party Delegate to Victorian Liberal Party State Assembly 2010-2012

·        Parliamentary Liberal Party Delegate to the Victorian Young Liberal Movement 2010-2014

·        Chair, Parliamentary Friends of Malta 2010-2014

·        Parliamentary Representative to the G20 Youth Conference 2013 – St Petersburg, Russia

Andrew has had a twenty-year career in politics, working with Leaders of the Opposition, Federal MP’s and withing the party organisation. Importantly, each of these roles gave him valuable experience of politics, how governments function and fostering strong relationships between stakeholders at all levels of government and within the community.

In 2018 Andrew decided that he needed to broaden his scope and went into the private sector as a government relations and community engagement consultant.

There were tough times working in that field and Andrew took work where he could. He drove Uber for a period, took a labouring job with a fence builder, worked on the factory floor in manufacturing before entering the food industry in the months before Covid-19.

Currently Andrew works in the private sector managing a state government program aimed at getting university science and engineering students work experience in companies who manufacture for defence supply chains.
